Omar is a partner in Reed Smith's Energy and Natural Resources Group with a focus on structured trade and commodities finance and commercial lending. Omar has been practising law for over 15 years and has extensive experience advising clients on trade and commodities finance products across a broad range of jurisdictions and asset classes.
In particular, Omar’s experience includes advising clients on borrowing base financings, pre-export financings, prepayment financings, receivables financing structures, commodities repos and inventory monetisation structures, as well as a number of other aspects of trade and commodities finance, such as bilateral loan and letter of credit facilities, payment instruments, participation structures, the securitisation of receivables purchase arrangements and the treatment of certain financial products for regulatory capital purposes.
Omar also has extensive experience of representing clients in connection with more mainstream banking arrangements, such as general corporate finance, acquisition finance, real estate finance and fund finance, as well as restructuring and insolvency matters.
Omar regularly speaks at conferences and has been published on a number of occasions in the trade press. Legal 500 UK, 2016 described Omar as having ‘outstanding trade and commodities finance experience’.
